Base Card

Base 14cm x 12 cm (In portrait mode, cut 14cm first)
Left Flap 14cm x 6.5cm
Right Flap 14cm x 4.5cm
Die cut the centre top of your base card with your chosen border die.

Create Flaps and Notches

On the larger left hand flap score the left hand side at 1.5cm.

In portrait mode - at the right hand end, opposite end to score, mark 0.5cm in from the end and lightly draw a pencil mark down from the top to the bottom of the flap.  Create a notch of about 2.5cm in the middle of that end – on the pencil line, mark 2 cm down from the top and 2 cm up from the bottom and draw a slightly angled line from the pencil mark to the end of the card.

Repeat on the smaller right hand flap, but score the right hand side at 1.5cm.

At the left hand end, opposite end to score, mark 0.5cm and mark lightly with a pencil from the top to the bottom of the flap.  Create a notch of about 2.5cm in the middle of that end – on the pencil line, mark 1cm down from the top and 1cm up from the bottom and draw a slightly angled line from the pencil mark to the end of the card.

Rub out all pencil lines.

 Decorative Paper

Base 13.5cm x 8 cm (In portrait mode, cut 13.5cm first)

Left Flap 11.5cm x 6cm

Right Flap 11.5cm x 4cm

The sizes above provide for a little border around the decorative paper.

Add the decorative paper to the base card and the flaps – remember which side is the front of the flaps and for a regular patterned design, which side is right way up.  Decorate only up to the scored edge on the flaps.

Variation – If you have done the wave on the top of the flaps, position the flap on the decorative paper and copy the wave shape.  Cut a little extra off the bottom to allow the border effect around the decorative paper.

Affix Flaps

Using the left hand flap, fold away to the back in the scored area.  Affix adhesive to the inside of the small section of folded flap.  Working from the bottom of the base card, attach by folding around the back of the base card.

Repeat on the right hand side with the right hand flap.

Create slots

Base card

Lay card out flat with the back side up.

On the back of the base card measure 4cm from the left hand side fold (where flap is attached) and lightly mark the top and bottom with a pencil. Draw a light pencil line from top to bottom.

From the bottom of the pencil line, measure up 2cm from the bottom and mark and 3cm up from that mark.  Cut in between these 2 marks.

Rub out pencil marks.

Left Hand Flap Slot

Turn the card over to the front and lay flat.

On the back of the left hand flap – measure 4cm from the right hand side fold (where base is attached) and lightly mark with a pencil from the top to the bottom of the flap. Along that pencil line, measure 1cm from the bottom and mark.  Measure up 3cm from that mark and mark.  Cut in between these 2 marks.

Rub out the pencil marks.

Embellishments

Complete decoration on base card and flaps.

Assembly

Tuck left hand flap notch into base card slot.

Tuck right hand flap notch into the left hand flap slot.

Variation:

Create wave in Flaps

On the back of the left hand flap hand draw a shallow wave at the very top of the flap – as far as the fold joining the base card.  DO NOT make too deep or this flap will be below the front of the right hand flap.  Cut out.

Repeat on the right hand flap.
