Gift Box from one 12 x 12 Sheet

Metric 27 x 27cm

Decide which colour/pattern will be outside and inside.

NB Pattern on the outside

If there is a right-way-up pattern for the outside, put it upside down (the top of the pattern at the bottom).  That way when you fold it up to form the front of the box the pattern will be the right way, similarly when you fold the lid over, the pattern will be the right way.

Scoring

With the inside facing up.

Score at 7.6cm, 22.8cm

Rotate paper to the left and score at 2.5cm, 9cm, 16.5cm and 22.8cm.

Cutting

Rotate back (to the right) so with the one inch score at the top.

At the 7.6cm score line, cut down from the top to the 16.5cm point.

Lift your cutter and move down to the 22.8cm point.  Cut from there down to the end of the page.

Repeat the 2 steps above at the 16.5cm score line.

With the 2.5cm tab at the top, cut off the top corner tabs on both sides, at 9cm score line to make a lid and flap.

Construction

With the colour you want to form the inside facing up:

Fold down the top tabs on both sides.  Then fold up the bottom tabs on both sides. Then fold in the side tabs.

Front of Box

Affix double sided tape along the edges of the inside of the bottom middle tab.

To form the front of the box, fold up the bottom middle tab and affix to the meet the side bottom tabs that have been folded in to meet it.

Back of Box

Affix double sided tape around the rectangle of the section between 9cm and 16.5cm. (Above this the 2 sections will form the lid and flap.)

To form the back side of the box, fold up the middle tab and affix to the meet the side top tabs that have been folded down and in to meet it,

Tie ribbon or string around to close. Attach note.

I decorated mine with Tattered Lace die Cut Poinsettia flower and leaves.

Flap also looks nice on the outside.

For extra strength:

Use Wonder Tap (extra sticky) to hold it together.

If putting something heavy like cookies inside, pop in a piece of plain card 15 cm x 5.5cm inside at the bottom
