Acetate Technique (Small Card)

17 x 8.5cm card (folded in half to give 8.5 x 8.5 card) 
Acetate sheet larger than your card
Removable tape and sticky tape
Dies – shape of your choice, e.g. square, circle, etc
Pigment inks and daubers
Sentiment stamp of your choice and ink.
Decorative stamp of your choice and Stazon black ink
Or
  1. Diecut shape with black / dark card for cutting out shape Cut your shape from the acetate sheet (metal die and cutting machine)
  2. Place your folded card on your work mat and secure with removable tape.
  3. Place the acetate sheet with the cutout, over the front of your card and position where you want the colour. Remember where your stamp or diecut will go – test by putting it over the acetate cutout to see where it will fit. - attach with sticky tape to work mat.
  4. Looking at your pigment inkpad, choose 3 colours from light to dark to use on your card.
  5. Start with the lightest colour at the top of the cut out first.
  6. Dab dauber in pigment ink pad and start at the edge of the acetate and using a circular, rolling motion move over the card and cover approximately 1/3 of the top of the acetate cutout.
  7. Using the next darker colour, repeat for the middle 1/3 of the card, blending a little into the top colour.
  8. Using the darkest colour, repeat for the bottom 1/3 of the card, blending a little into the middle colour.
  9. Remove the acetate shape.
  10. If stamping directly onto the pigment ink, use a heat tool to dry.
  11. Ink your stamp well with Stazon black ink and stamp on your card OR diecut your shape from the dark card and attach.

If a filigree diecut, before cutting attach Diecut n Bond – large double sided tape roll - to one side of the card, then cut, remove protective tape cover and attach.

Post-It note Technique

A5 White Card
Large Sticky/Post-it Notes (must be sticky on the long side)
Pigment inks and Daubers
Decorative Stamp of your choice and Stazon Black Ink
Or
Die Shape and black or dark card for cutting out shape.

  1. Fold card in half.
  2. Make a small pencil mark at 1cm in from the each edge along all sides of the front of the card.
  3. Using the pencil marks stick large Post-it notes around the border.
  4. Looking at your pigment inkpad, choose 3 colours from light to dark to use on your card.
  5. Choose 3 colours from your pigment ink pads.
  6. Follow from number 6 - 8 above - remove the Post It notes carefully.
  7. Follow 10 above.

Pigment inkpad storage:  Store your inkpads upside down, so the ink stays in the pad and not at the bottom of it.

 

We're getting the hang of this Zoom and everyone was creating at their best this month with their dotty dragonflies - which were taken over by butterflies!

Not only that you can use any embellishments or die cuts you like - I love the use of last month's butterfly dies for a decorative cutout!

And when we say 'use this piece in another project' we don't always see the results - this clever and madly productive class participant found the perfect embossing folder in their stash and went to town with the cutout from the acetate card - here's the 14 results!
